New Delhi: The BJP wanted to introduce two new deputy chief ministers, ideally including a woman. However, Nitish Kumar strongly supported Samrat Choudhary’s name. This created internal pressure for BJP leaders. They feared that replacing only one face would spark dissent within the party. To avoid risk, they finally decided to retain both current deputy CMs. This decision came just ahead of the oath ceremony preparations.

Did Nitish Break Political Calculations?

Sources say Nitish used his influence to block BJP’s restructuring move. His early recommendation for Samrat made BJP reconsider their plan. Observers believe Nitish acted strategically to ensure his comfort within the alliance. He prefers leaders he can coordinate with easily. This step pushed BJP into a corner, forcing them to repeat both names despite earlier intentions.

What Happens To Party Equation Now?

BJP was left balancing internal expectations and alliance commitments. Replacing only one deputy could trigger an upset. Changing both would appear too abrupt. Therefore, party leaders chose to avoid controversy shortly before government formation. This suggests alliance dynamics are still sensitive. Political experts see this as Nitish asserting dominance in decision making.

Is There A Pattern In Nitish’s Choices?

Similar incidents occurred earlier with Sushil Modi. In 2017, BJP planned to remove him from the deputy role. Nitish vetoed it, ensuring he remained in the post. Analysts point out that Nitish often forms a strong working bond with one BJP figure. His current rapport with Samrat Choudhary mirrors that past pattern. Comfort and coordination outweigh party strategy for him.

How Did Leadership Transition Unfold?

Nitish resigned and later received full support from NDA MLAs. During the meeting, Samrat Choudhary proposed Nitish’s name as leader. Lawmakers unanimously approved. With this endorsement, he is set to become Chief Minister for the tenth time. Both deputy chief ministers will continue without change as per the latest decision.

When Will Oath Ceremony Take Place?

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 20 November at Gandhi Maidan, Patna. Timing is fixed between 11 am and 12:30 pm. Nitish Kumar will take the oath at around 11:30 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP-led state chief ministers are expected to attend. NDA allies will also be present in full strength.

What Does This Signal For Governance?

Experts believe Nitish is aiming for a stable start by avoiding new confrontations. His insistence on repeating deputy faces suggests control over early decisions. This move may strengthen his position ahead of key policy actions. Overall, the decision marks a tactical victory for Nitish within the alliance structure.
